UP!

this is really good. the guitar and drum processing is really clean which is impossible so you should probably be banned for cheating at music

LunacyEcho responds:

the tricc is the kicc

this is amazing! the sound design at the beginning is especially awesome. can't wait to hear more from you

scrambIe responds:

HAHAHA NO WAY

so lovely, as always. i think my favorite description of evocative writing that i've ever had someone give me is that it should have "tactile, viscous details" and i think that's something you've really started to embody in your own work. i can feel the music on my skin

stardew responds:

that last sentence is also a very good conveying-of-feeling!

i'm really glad you noticed all the little details i worked at :) i used to think my hyper-focusing on small individual elements was something that i should work to get rid of, but as of late i've tried out embracing it, and i think it's proving to be a lot better for me.

i like the intro

awesome. really love how you guys have been playing with weird textures lately.

how did you even come up with the eerie reversed aesthetic starting 1:40? what synapses fired to make that happen?? probably my favorite vibe so far

stardew responds:

thank ü ( :

for the reverse bit 1f1 was kinda just like "huh where should i take this what if Reverse" and then Reverse happened and it was beautiful

Onefin responds:

yea i was like "hrmmmm well what if i just like took the first section and made it go backwwards"

this is amazing. there are a lot of great things in this piece but I want to shout out the return to the opening motif at 2:45 and the long crescendo into 3:39 that follows, which are both awesome. also, I'd like to publicly announce that I have been thinking about the outro for 22 hours straight

stardew responds:

ily mayo boy, thank you x100

Onefin responds:

omg miyo you showed up! you sound wizard from the depths of weebland

thank you very much we worked very hard on those you can thank stardew for the outro

This is really good. It gets off to a bit of a slow start, but once you get into that awesome groove with the percussion at 1:00, everything is really cool and engaging. I especially like the composition around 1:40-2:00— it gives me some serious Hollow Knight OST vibes (which I love), especially with those background string lines. The nature sfx around 1:20 are a very nice touch as well!

Keep it up and good luck in the competition!

Baumarius responds:

Thanks! I've actually never heard that soundtrack, so I'll have to check it out!

A masterpiece. I can almost get over the fact that I explicitly claimed first Chips collab with starstruck and you STOLE HIM FROM ME

Can't wait to see what else both of you guys come up with.

Onefin responds:

i didn't steal him, i just called him after you called him and he happened to say "oh miyo's gonna be busy doing his thing as a PAID PROFESSIONAL MUSICIAN

Super fun! 1:01 and 2:32-2:37 made me smile. (I was frowning in disapproval the rest of the time, to be clear.)

many thank you to you too

LunacyEcho responds:

ahaha i thought about you specifically when i made 1:01 :P

hmmmm perhaps a facereveal would be a bad thing after all :thonk:

merry thank you!

Nice track, Zyzyx! It's been a while since I've dropped by so I thought I'd take the chance to give you some compliments and suggestions.

+The mix the whole way through is really good. I don't have any criticism there.
+The vocal melody is really, really good, except for "our scars" imo because the pacing of the line suddenly drops a lot and it feels like we've hit a mudpit that's slowing us down or something. Also your singing is really solid except for "heart," where you audibly break a bit...
+Lots of very fun chiptune drop fills! Very VR-y.
+Thank you for changing up the chord progression. It's a pet peeve of mine when a chord progression is used all the way through and it just makes the whole track so much cooler.
+3:08-3:11 is really clever. I'm glad you did that.

-Not sure how I feel about how quickly the vocal chops enter in the intro. I might give the guitar a bit more time to shine on its own.
-The future bass chords felt like they were lacking some heft, compared to what I expected from the last measure of the buildup. The problem is that you have two consecutive measures that are bulding up to that giant chord stack you have by being sort of anticlimactic and giving a feeling of falling into the drop— waiting, and then waiting some more, makes the whole thing kinda lose momentum. tl;dr- I'd either make the buildup keep gaining energy until the chords, or to have some kind of impact instead of/along with the future bass chords.
-The sudden motion in the piano 1:43-1:46 struck me as very distracting because it immediately disrupted the calm of that section.
-1:59-2:00 is cool in theory but imo it's executed kinda weirdly and ends up sounding very dissonant and jarring. Not sure whether this is because of reverb or something, or that it's just way too sudden.
-The guitar got kind of distorted in the outro— not sure whether this was from audio stretching or if it was intentional, but idk I found it not ideal
-General notes on the lyrics: ideally you should have the same rhyme pattern in both pairs of stanzas, but you don't. The first pair is -A-B -A-B, but the second pair is -A-A -B-B. I think making the scheme consistent would make it just a bit stronger! Also "With hearts so binding/blinded by a thousand chains" doesn't make any sense, lol. Also, see note on "our scars" above

Overall excellent track! It's crazy how professional you've been sounding lately. Keep it up!

DJ-Zyzyx responds:

Wow you're very nitpicky xD i like nitpicky tho. Yeah the distortion at the end is a bitcrusher. I don't exactly see the problem you have with the drop, but I appreciate your criticism. I've heard this song so many times I kinda lost a sense of the mix.

thank u m8 <3
